This Swiss couple handed me a computer printout that I recognized as the opening sequence to the old James Bond films.   Bond…James Bond…walks into the spiraling radius of the villian’s gun barrel, slowly turns, and fires his pistol.  The mosaic would be the focal point of their Greenwich Village loft.  Although fabricated as a continuous mural, the starting point would be the two wall panels in the shower…briefly separating across the room then wrapping around the sink and toilet….separating again and then continuing around the floating Jacuzzi.  The mosaic would be fabricated on precisely measured panels.  No tiles would be cut.  The mosaic would have a “digitized” design.  In my studio, I cut the cement board panels, screwed them on to the side of my barn, projected a video of the image, and outlined the circle, spiraling rays, and figure.  Inside the studio, I constructed four tables that angled from the wall and could be rolled together and apart.  I placed the panels on the tables and began the lay-out.  All of the individually laid tiles had to meet perfectly where the wall-ceiling-floor panels connected.  The shot had to hit the mark…there was no room for error…
